Katy Owens is a public policy consultant and owner of Democracy Research, LLC. She lives in Summit County with her husband and two kids.
Katy has a bachelor’s degree in international relations, a master’s degree in political science, and has been in the field of election administration for the last ten years. She has worked for the Denver Elections Division, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL),The Carter Center's Democracy Program, and now provides research, analysis and project management services to election organizations nationally. She has testified in more than a dozen state legislatures on a variety of election administration topics, including election security, voting by mail, and technology in the voting process.
Katy is the daughter of two school teachers who taught her the importance of lifelong learning and of being involved in the community. She believes that talking to and really listening to everyone, regardless of political affiliation or background, is the key to making good public policy. She wants to see a better future for Utah's kids, which includes affordable healthcare, quality education, clean air and a meaningful voice in the legislature.
In her spare time Katy enjoys browsing the aisles of the grocery store looking for foods that her kids will actually eat (especially the little one), managing the active social life of her astronaut/popstar/princess, and hiking in the hills around her home while keeping an eye out for moose.
